Impeccable.

Former Valentino chairman Giancarlo Giammetti at his New York City penthouse, which was decorated in collaboration with Jacques Grange. The painting is by Richard Prince, and the layouts on the floor are from Private: Giancarlo Giammetti, his new memoir.

In the entrance hall, a Mark Rothko painting hangs next to a vintage mirror; a pair of Tang-dynasty horses and a bronze vessel by Kanamori Eiichi rest on a midcentury French iron table in the manner of Gilbert Poillerat.

A joke painting by Prince presides over the living room, where Grange-designed armchairs (upholstered in a tiger-stripe fabric by Le Manach from Pierre Frey) and ottomans are grouped with a vintage Philip and Kelvin LaVerne cocktail table. The vintage Karl Springer floor lamps are from Liz O’Brien, the gilt-bronze crocodile chair is by Claude Lalanne, and the rug is by Beauvais Carpets. At right, a circa-1800 Swedish gilt-wood armchair fromH. M. Luther stands next to a table designed by Nick Allen that hosts an Alexander Calder sculpture.

A circa-1940 gilt-bronze candelabra in the form of a tree towers near a book-shaped sculpture by Anselm Kiefer.

Paintings by Picasso and David Hockney overlook a sitting area featuring acrylic side tables from Liz O’Brien, a 1935 Eugene Printz console topped by Chinese stoneware cranes, and a rug by Peter Marino.

Structural columns along the apartment’s perimeter were sheathed in Indian mica, as were a number of the walls, adding to the home’s glamour and warmth. In the wide corridor between the living and dining rooms, bronze-and-glass doors leading to the kitchen were custom made by Josette Trublard and are flanked by sconces from JF Chen; at left, a sixth-century Chinese sculptural fragment and a pair of circa-1900 Japanese bronze geese are displayed atop a midcentury mirrored table in the style of Serge Roche.

A Basquiat painting strikingly overlays mica paneling in the dining room, where two vintage tables, outfitted with tops crafted by Atelier Viollet, are ringed by Grange-designed chairs. Matching lacquered-aluminum Chinese-style armchairs flank a black-lacquer console that displays a large circa-1960 vase from Liz O’Brien. The rug is by Beauvais.

Georg Jensen silver coffee service stands at the ready in the kitchen.

The rosewood-and-walnut-lined hallway leads to the bedrooms and a Jean-Michel Basquiat canvas.

In the master suite, a Cy Twombly triptych is mounted above the bed, which is dressed in Frette linens; the stools are circa-1940 designs by Maison Ramsay, the desk is by Printz, the chair is by Philippe Hiquily, and the carpeting is by Beauvais

Another Prince joke painting hangs in the suite’s sitting area.

Grange designed Giammetti’s desk, which is topped by a ’70s Springer lamp; the circa-1903 Josef Hoffmann chair is from Karl Kemp Antiques.

The master bath, which offers dramatic views of Central Park and upper Manhattan, is accented with a Rachel Feinstein painting and a circa-1960 Jansen bench.
